(R Visas) RELIGIOUS WORKER VISAS

Foreign nationals who have worked in a religious capacity for at least two years immediately prior to the application in a religious capacity for a bona fide religious organization may apply for this visa type. Religious workers are divided into three subcategorize which include:

     -Aliens who will work as ministers

     -Aliens who will work for a religious organization in a professional capacity in a
      religious vocation or occupation

     -Aliens who will be working for a bonafide religious organization in a religious
      vocation or occupation.


In essence the religious worker category covers religious counselors, cantors, catechists, missionaries, religious translators, religious broadcasters, nuns, and monks.

 

 


 



Asylum may be granted to people who are arriving in or already physically present in the United States. To apply for asylum in the United States, you may ask for asylum at a port-of-entry (airport, seaport, or border crossing), or file

Form I-589, Application for Asylum and for Withholding of Removal, at the appropriate Service Center within one year of your arrival in the United States. You may apply for asylum regardless of your immigration status, whether you are in the United States legally or illegally.
